MLB: Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals

What we learned this weekend: there is no way you can slow the Dodgers down, the Yankees are back in 1st place and are red-hot, and we need to start talking about the Kansas City Royals because they are really freaking good. Let’s get after it.

To start, I think it is clear that the Dodgers are just flat-out unstoppable. They are now 73-31 and the loss of ace Clayton Kershaw has not slowed them down one bit. They literally do not have a flaw on their team. Their bullpen is dominant, their offense is outstanding and the starting pitching is continuing to perform even with the loss of their ace. This Dodger team is the best I have seen in a while and honestly could be one of the best teams of all time if they keep this up.

The Yankees are back to playing great baseball. They have won six out of seven and have reestablished first place in the A.L. East. This recent hot streak is in big thanks to Brett Gardner. On Friday, he hit a walkout homer to propel the Bronx Bombers to a win. He then led the game on Saturday off with a homer and eventually hit a walkoff for the second straight day. Aaron Judge is also starting to get his power swing back and that is never a bad thing. This A.L. East race between the Sox and the Yanks should go into late September and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Finally, we need to start talking about the Kansas City Royals. They are arguably the hottest team in baseball and it seems like nobody is talking about them. They are 9-1 in their last 10 and continue to pile on wins. Their pitching is above average and offense has more pop than an AK-47. I think that the Royals could make a serious run at the A.L. Central but they will have to catch the Indians, who are also 9-1 in their last 10.
