What we learned this weekend, we learned that Bryce Harper is the luckiest man on the planet, we learned that Benny Biceps can absolutely rake in the Bronx, and Stanton can’t stop hitting homers.
Saturday night the city of Washington D.C. held its breath. Their beloved star, Bryce Harper, was running to first base and slipped on the bag, tweaking his knee.
Right away, it looked like Bryce experienced significant ligament damage in his knee. He was in excruciating pain and I thought that was the end for his season. Fortunately for Bryce, Nats fans and baseball fans across the country, the MRI showed no ligament damage in Bryce’s knee but rather a severe bone bruise. He is listed as out indefinitely but the Nats do expect Harper to play again in 2017 and especially come playoff time.
Also on Saturday we witnessed an absolute power display put on by Andrew Benitendi. Benny Biceps hit 2 two three run homers, racking up 6 RBIs leading his team to a huge victory against arch rival, New York Yankees. More impressively, Benitendi hit both off of Yankees ace Luis Severino who seemed to be unhittable at times this season. I have called this kid the next Carl Yastrzemski and I am sticking to that prediction. The young Red Sox outfielder has such a bright upside and I think he can only get better.
Finally, we have to talk about the hottest man in all of baseball. Giancarlo Stanton is literally on FIRE 🔥 right now and I am not using that term lightly. He has hit 9 homers in his last 10 games and now has 42 homers on the year. With his 42nd homer, he tied Gary Sheffield for the most home runs in a single season by a Marlin. This dude is just a freaking stud and the ball has to look like a beach ball to him right now. At this pace, you have to think he might hit 60 plus homers this season.
