The math is simple, he is 11 home runs from tying Rodger Maris’s mark of 61 home runs in a single season and 12 from passing him. He has 32 games to do it. So to answer the question “is it realistic” , he’ll yeah it is. This dude is on a freaking tear right now and come September when the expansion rosters come out, Stanton is going to face nothing but meatballs from minor league call ups.
If you’re wondering why I am not mentioning Barry Bonds record of 73 in a single season my anwser to that is simple. There are 3 guys that have hit more home runs than Roger Maris in a single season, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa. All three of them have tested positive for performance enhancing supplements at one point of their career. I can not consider that feat more impressive than what Maris did in 1961. There should be at least some sort of asterisk next to the home run record. Don’t get me wrong, Sosa, Bonds, and McGwire were all phenomenal baseball players and would still be great baseball players without taking PEDS. However, to say they would still hit 60 plus even 70 homers in a single season, is just not a statement you can make. I also think it is clear that Giancarlo Stanton is not on PEDs but rather a freak of nature. I mean look at the guys muscles, his biceps are bigger than my head, and trust me folks, I have a huge head.
My prediction for Stanton is that he will not only surpass Maris, but will hit 65 homers this season. This will give him the record for the most home runs in a single season by a clean player. One more hot take. He will continue to stay hot all the way into next season and will hit 70, yes 70 homers next year. He is that good and that powerful.
