Monday nights infraction between Draymond Green and Kevin Durant may have been the true beginning to the end of a dynasty. The two All-Star teammates got into it with each other on the bench after Green made a costly turnover at the buzzer to force overtime.
When asked about the situation, Green replied “we’re moving forward,” while Durant did not want to talk about their beef. This could mean he is still upset by it but my guess would be that he just wants to put it behind them and get back to playing basketball.
Durant is arguably the most skilled offensive players we have ever seen and Green is one of the best all-around players in the league. Golden State has now won back-to-back NBA titles and are still early favorites to three-peat. These two players, especially considering All-Star center Demarcus Cousins is not set to return until at least some time in January, are crucial to this teams success.
The Warriors are currently sitting first in the West at 12-4 but are 2-2 since Stephen Curry’s injury, including a 21-point blow out loss to the Rockets last night. The 3-point slinger is expected to miss at least another week and will be re-evaluated when the time comes. It will be interesting to see how the team handles the rest of his absence now that Durant and Green have supposedly moved on from the situation.
I believe that this team is way too skilled to let this get to them and break them down. However, if they do not get their chemistry correct again, their season will not end the way they want it to. I still see the Golden State Warriors as the 2018-19 NBA Champions.
