Florida State has made the executive decision to fire Head Coach Willie Taggart, ending his short tenure with the Noles. In just 21 games with the program, Taggart managed to compile a measly record of 9-12.

This decision to fire Taggart came on the hands of an embarrassing 27-10 home loss Saturday afternoon against rival Miami. In a statement made by Florida States president, John Thrasher; “I think very highly of Coach Taggart and wish him well, but in the interest of the university we had no choice but to make a change,” “We will support our student-athletes in every way and do all we can to return to the winning tradition that is Seminole football.”

Last season, in Taggart’s first year as Head Coach, Florida State failed to make a bowl game for the first time since 1981.

Florida State assistant coach, Odell Haggins, who served as interim coach after Jimbo Fisher left in 2017, will once again serve as interim coach.

Taggart, who was sitting on a six-year, $30 million dollar contract, was bought out by Florida State due to over 20 million dollars of private donations made to the University. FSU’s athletic department will also owe Taggart 85% of his remaining salary through January 31st.

In a statement made on his Twitter page, Taggart stated

Taggart will now look to find another HC job in what would become his 5th coaching stint, in just 10 years.
