In what has become the most surprising news of the day, Mike Leach has reportedly accepted a deal to become the next coach of the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Leach, a 58-year old-seasoned vet, has spent the last 8 seasons in Pullman as the head coach of the Washington State Cougars.
During his time in Pullman, Leach compiled an overall record of 55-47 which included six bowl appearances and two bowl wins.
Prior to his time at Washington State, Leach spent ten seasons as the Head Coach of Texas Tech in which he compiled a record of 84-43.
I mean, WHAT A FREAKING HIRE!! Mike Leach was the LAST guy I thought Mississipi State was going to be able to snag during their HC search. And no disrespect to Joe Moorhead, but like…..what an upgrade. This is comparable to a guy dating a 2 and then upgrading to a 10. It just doesn’t happen. Mike Leach is a surgical offensive genius and the fact that his talents are now being placed in the SEC will do WONDERS for the growth of college football. I am not sure that the South is ready for what’s in store with Leach’s air raid attack.
PS: Has the SEC now become the new holy grail for great coaches? Look at some of these names, man.
