In response to the COVID-19 crisis, The Ivy League has announced that it will cancel its conference tournaments in both men’s and women’s basketball.
In a decision that was made on Tuesday, the Ivy League announced that due to the cancellation of postseason play, Yale men’s basketball and Princeton women’s basketball will receive the two automatic births to the NCAA tournament (Both teams won the regular-season title for their respected divisions.)
In a statement made by Ivy League executive director, Robin Harris; “We understand and share the disappointment with student-athletes, coaches and fans who will not be able to participate in these tournaments. Regrettably, the information and recommendations presented to us from public health authorities and medical professionals have convinced us that this is the most prudent decision.”
This marks the first intercollegiate postseason tournament to be cancelled as a result of the Coronavirus.
