Yesterday’s nightmare has become today’s reality. The NCAA has announced that due to the ongoing Corona crisis, they have decided to cancel this year’s men’s and women’s basketball tournaments to go along with a  complete cancellation of all remaining spring and winter championships.

In addition to the NCAA tournament being cancelled, these are the following intercollegiate championships that will not take place during this year’s academic calendar.

  • NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament
  • NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament
  • NCAA Women’s Tennis Finals
  • NCAA Men’s Tennis Finals
  • NCAA Women’s Golf Finals
  • NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Tournament
  • NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Tournament
  • NCAA Women’s Softball World Series
  • NCAA Men’s Golf Final
  • NCAA Rowing FInals
  • NCAA Men’s Track and Field Championships
  • NCAA Women’s Track and Field Championships
  • NCAA College Baseball World Series

In a statement made by the NCAA moments ago, “This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities.”

This will be a day, a decision and a moment in time,  that will go down in American History for all the wrong reasons. #MarchSadness
